Sticky Floor Serenade

by Emét

/

about

Inspired by a series of nights out with my friend and fellow musician Paddy Clarke (who originally wrote a song called Sticky Floor Serenade, released in 2020) the track recalls smoking in the rain, listening to The White Stripes and getting tackled by a nightclub bouncer while dancing to The Sugarhill Gang’s Apache (Jump On It). The single will be accompanied by a music video (public release 9 March 2022) starring myself and Paddy Clarke, which was filmed between Calgary and Liverpool as neither of us could afford to travel to our respective cities.

Sticky Floor Serenade was recorded in Belfast’s Half Bap Recording Studios by No Oil Paintings' George Sloan, with accompaniment from Buí bassist Rónán McQuillan and drummer Matt Sloan.

The music video was filmed by Charlie Hart (Calgary) and Leonie Abisgold-Rayner (Liverpool), and edited by Leonie Abisgold-Rayner.

lyrics

I took a train right to your house
to sit on a beanbag - what’s that about?
Past the stage where we act our age,
we get off our faces in the town.
Sure, we’ll go and paint the town.

No longer used to bouts of rain,
I light a fag and it melts away.
If you’re Jack White does that mean I’m Meg?
And you call out: “That’s an awful thing you say”.
You say: “What an awful thing.”

Tackled by the bouncer while dancing to Apache.
you threw up in the taxi by the traffic light.
And I was in the taxi when Phoebe turned and asked me:
“Will you take care of Paddy? ‘Cause I’ll not stick around”.

So I took a train right to your house,
and tried to keep up without passing out,
but there’s no rest for a man with a snake-skin dress.
